28 September 2007 - The worlds biggest bore arrives in China.
The Qiantang tidal bore ploughs up the river at speeds in excess of fifteen knots and at a height of 30ft tearing up everything in its path. The noise it generates sounds like thunder. In September, annually, millions of people from both home and abroad flock there to watch the tidal bore on the eighteenth day of the eighth lunar month. It is customary watching festival, something done for over 2000 years. The wave is so vast that in one violent tide of history over 10,000 people were swept away! Only five years ago 87 people were killed for venturing too close.
CLOUD news has exclusive pictures of the bore taken from the Qiantang River at Yanguan, near Hangzhou, China. James Reynolds, who lives in China, captured some stunning images of the Qiantang Bore . Last update : 18-10-2007 13:15
