08 November 2007 - Massive Storm Surge on its way to east coast of UK
Severe winds and gusts in excess of 100mph have been reported in parts of Scotland today as a vigorous tightly packed low pressure system passed just north of Scotland. The strong winds are now heading south east and creating a very strong storm surge. This surge combined with a high tide is expected to cause major flooding along the east coast of the UK in the early hours of Friday morning. Emergency services and residents all along the East coast are tonight preparing for the worst.
The windy conditions have already caused disruption across more rural and exposed parts of Scotland. CLOUD news has obtained some superb photos from Martin Collins, who lives in the Outer Hebrides. Martin has been using back-up power via his generator at home since the storms struck earlier today and we are very grateful (and lucky) he managed to get photos to us!
The photos were taken in the Outer Hebrides, which bore the brunt of some of the strongest winds earlier today, and may give some indication of what is yet to come for the East coast of the UK.
